About
One small, complete
thing a day.
Saramsha is a growing shelf of small web apps — a tool, a toy, a simulation, an experiment. A new one arrives every day. Each is finished, each has a real idea underneath it, and each runs entirely inside the tab you are reading this in.
What counts as one
The bar is a reaction: oh, that's clever. A complete, polished, surprising small thing beats a big half-finished one, so nothing here is a prototype or a stub.
In practice that means each app has something genuine underneath — a piece of mathematics, physics, language, music or history — and that it becomes interactive within about a second of loading. Pulled Both Ways exists because most explanations of why there are two high tides a day quietly invoke centrifugal force, which is the sloppy account; you can drag the Moon around and watch the real residual field do the work. The Weight of Syllables scans Sanskrit verse the way Piṅgala set it down around the third century BCE. The Shape of a Secret will break a Vigenère cipher in front of you using nothing but letter frequencies.
Every app carries a written piece explaining the idea — usually a thousand words or so, with the history and the sources. Those are worth as much as the code.
The rules it follows
Each app is plain HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript. No framework, no build step, no backend, no database, no API keys. A folder of files that Apache serves, which is why they are fast and why they will still work in ten years.
- Nothing you do leaves your browser. Text you paste, pictures you draw, sounds you make — all of it stays in the tab. There is nowhere to upload it to.
- No accounts. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to log into.
- No trackers, no advertising. No cookies, and nothing that follows you anywhere. We count anonymous visits on our own server, so we know which apps people open; nothing about you is stored.
- Not one third-party request. Even the fonts are served from this domain. Open your network tab: every byte this page loads comes from saramsha.in, and nobody else learns you were here.
That last one is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly. Most sites promising privacy still load fonts, icons or scripts from somewhere else, which hands over your IP address on every page view. This one does not.
Colophon
Static files on shared hosting. The gallery, the Atom feed, the sitemap and the machine-readable index are generated from a single JSON file listing every app. Type is Inter, Instrument Serif and IBM Plex Mono, with Noto Serif Devanagari, Noto Sans Devanagari and Tiro Devanagari Sanskrit where Devanagari is needed — all self-hosted, all under the SIL Open Font License.
The name is सारांश, sārāṃśa — the essential portion drawn out of a whole.
